4th of July weekend

So there I was knee deep in ..... Just kidding. But I do have an interesting story. This past weekend I took leave and flew home. More than a month ago I bought my ticket and thought.. "Geez, this deal is too good to be true. A connection in D.C. from Louisville to Rochester that leaves at 0600 and arrives at 0930. AWESOME". Well, it definately was good on paper. When I arrived at the airport at 0500 things were looking good. When 0600 arrived, we still were not on the plane. An attendent came out and alerted us to the fact that the hydrolics were out on the plane and we would not be taking off.!! There was another plane arriving at 1030 and some of us could get on that plane. I got my ticket transferred but they could not guarantee me a seat to Rochester, Syracuse, Albany or Buffalo. All flights to any of those cities were booked until Saturday afternoon. My heart sank. All I wanted was to get home to see my family and friends and it was looking grim.
My options opened up a little. I called Ryan McKenna. Resident of the D.C. area to see if he could take me in if no flights opened up. He was going my way the next day anyway, so why not? Oh, did I mention I called at 0645? He graciously agreed to pick me up at the airport. For the next 5 hours I sat around and read my golf magazine. I Finally landed at Dulles at noon and by the Hand of God, there was a seat on a flight to Rochester at 1530. Ryan, the best bud a guy can have, came to the airport, and picked me up and took me out to lunch during the 3 hour layover. And finally at 1630, I arrived to see Dee.... 7 hours late. But she was just excited that I made it, instead of waiting until late Saturday night.
My stay at home was AWESOME. Mom's cooking, Dad's grilling. Good times with Justin and Lisa. Then the trip to Dee's parents. It's so comforting knowing that the family that I will shortly join is so wonderful and fun to be around. We picniced at the park and had a great time together. It was generally a great weekend that ended with a 10 hour car ride to Kentucky with Dee.
She's here for the rest of the week preparing for another part of the CPA exams. Then on the 23rd she moves here for good. I can't wait until that day comes.

Till then, back to the grind.
